Dream Big, Build Fast

We take on the problems that look too big to solve, then get the first working version running in weeks.

The ambition is the whole industry, not one depot

A bus operator running a million-dollar business on paper, spreadsheets and software nobody supports any more is not a small problem, and it is not one you fix with a better spreadsheet. Busable was started to replace the whole arrangement.

We want to build the world’s most intelligent and trusted platform for bus operations, to support every depot and community.

Big ambition, short cycles

The ambition is long term. The work is not. Version one of the Busable back office shipped in December 2021, version two in December 2022, version three in December 2023, and the fourth generation in July 2025. Every one of them went live in depots with operators running real work on it.

We build fast because of who is building

Graham Webber has three decades in the bus industry, over two of them building mission-critical transport systems including the early real-time platforms at Transport for NSW. Avindu Hewa is a full-stack architect with more than a decade behind him. Jeff Neill managed rural and regional bus service contracts and led operational teams before he started shaping the product here. Senior engineers and people who have actually run bus operations sit in the same team, so a design decision and the operational check on it happen in one conversation rather than three.

We start from what we do not know

Nobody here assumes they already have the answer. We research the problem, build the smallest version that puts it in front of a real operator, and let what comes back decide the next move.

Which is why compliance came first

The obvious thing to build first is the thing that demos well. We went at compliance instead — incidents, driver credentials, pre-departure checks, the audit trail an operator has to produce on demand. It is the least glamorous corner of the platform and the one that decides whether an operator can sleep.

The road ahead is longer than the road behind

The operations platform is the next stretch — rostering, maintenance, charter and live tracking sitting on the compliance record that is already there. After that, the depot itself. As fleets electrify, a depot with fifty electric buses is energy infrastructure, and knowing which bus leaves at five in the morning is what makes charging it intelligent.

Dream big enough that the first version looks impossible, then ship a first version anyway.
